Homemade Easy Soft Chocolate Doughnuts

1 chocolate-doughnuts

1 Tablespoon active dry yeast

1/4 cup warm water

1 1/2 cups milk, warmed

1/2 cup sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 tsp. salt

5 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup butter or shortening, softened

Oil for cooking

A} In a small bowl, stir together the yeast and water, then set aside for 5 minutes
(If it doesn’t get foamy, toss it out!)

B} In a large bowl, stir together the milk, sugar and eggs

C} Add the yeast mixture and stir until well combined

D} Add 2 cups of the flour and the salt and beat until well blended

E} Add the butter and beat until incorporated (Alternative you can melt butter instead}

F} Add the rest of the flour gradually, stirring until the dough comes together and isn’t too sticky

G} Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic

H} Cover and let sit for an hour or until doubled in size

I} Roll or pat the dough out

J} Cut into doughnuts (if you don’t have a doughnut cutter, use a round cutter or glass rim, then another smaller round cutter for the middle)

K} Set them aside on a floured surface or tray. Keep the doughnuts covered with a light kitchen towel for half hour to an hour or until they puff up again. (They’ll rise even more as they cook.)

L} Heat a couple inches of oil in a heavy pot until hot but not smoking

M} Gently cook the doughnuts in batches, without crowding, turning as needed until golden on both (or all) sides

N} Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate lined with paper towelsServe warm or wait until they are cold toss in a shallow bowl of cinnamon sugar, plain icing sugar to coat or you can glaze with chocolate or top them with jam. It depends on you how you like your doughnuts

For Chocolate Glaze

Chocolates {white, milk and dark}

Piping Bags

A} I used chocolate chips, place in a glass bowl and heat gently until just started to melt, over a pan of hot {not boiled} water. Make sure you stir until all pieces are melted.

B} I dipped doughnuts in chocolate of your choice, if it is white or dark or milk chocolate.

C} I place them on a cooling wire.

D} I sprinkled some doughnuts, some I drizzled with white and milk chocolate on top as seen on the photo. I used a pastry bag to do this.
